Before the session: what to do and skip

The week before your Morpheus8 session matters more than most patients expect. The treatment works best on calm, healthy skin — so your job in the 7 days leading up is to leave your skin alone, not improve it.

Skip in the 5-7 days before:

  • Retinoids, retinol, retin-A, and tretinoin.
  • Glycolic, salicylic, and other AHA/BHA acids.
  • Aggressive exfoliating scrubs or dermaplaning.
  • Other in-clinic treatments — chemical peels, lasers, microneedling, IPL.
  • Sunburns. Reschedule if you got one over the weekend.

Do in the 24-48 hours before:

  • Hydrate. Skin treats better when it is not dehydrated.
  • Eat a normal meal before your session — light-headed is more likely on an empty stomach.
  • Take ibuprofen the morning of, unless your provider asked you not to.
  • Arrive (or be at home, if you are using Soothe IV's mobile model) with a clean, makeup-free face.

Skip Botox and dermal filler for at least 2 weeks before Morpheus8 unless your provider specifically clears the overlap. If you take a blood thinner, tell us at the consult — we will adjust the plan.

The consult: what gets decided

Before your first session, you will have a $50 telehealth consult with our Medical Director, Ian K. Tseng, MD. The consult is a 20-30 minute video visit. He reviews your skin in good lighting, asks about your goals, your history, your skincare routine, and your timeline. He confirms you are a candidate for Morpheus8 and rules out anything that would change the plan — active acne flares, recent isotretinoin, melasma, pregnancy.

The consult is also where the protocol gets written. Specifically: which areas (face only? face + neck? add décolleté?), which depths (shallower passes for texture vs. deeper passes for laxity), how many sessions (typically 3-5 spaced 4-6 weeks apart), and any add-ons like Forma RF tightening to layer afterward. You leave with a session-by-session plan and a total cost. The $50 consult fee is credited in full toward your first treatment.

The day of: hour by hour

Here is a typical Soothe IV in-home Morpheus8 session, hour by hour. Clinic-based sessions follow roughly the same arc but with travel time on either end.

Time What's Happening
T-0 (RN arrives) Setup, vitals check, photos of treatment areas, brief review of the protocol.
0-15 minutes Skin is cleansed; topical numbing cream is applied generously across treatment areas.
15-45 minutes Numbing sets in. You can relax — phone, podcast, tea. Most patients describe a tingling, then nothing.
45-60 minutes Numbing is wiped off. The Morpheus8 handpiece is prepped with a fresh sterile single-use tip.
60-100 minutes Treatment passes. Multiple depth passes per area; provider works methodically through each zone.
100-120 minutes Cool compresses, post-treatment serum, sunscreen, and an aftercare review.

Total chair time runs 90-120 minutes for face-only sessions; closer to 2.5 hours for face + neck + décolleté. Body sessions are similar to face + neck — about 90-120 minutes per zone depending on size.

What it actually feels like

Honest description: warmth followed by quick heat, plus pressure. With topical numbing in place, most patients rate the sensation at a 3-5 out of 10 — uncomfortable in the moment but not painful enough to interrupt conversation. The face tip produces a fast pinpoint heat with each pulse; the body tip produces deeper, slower warmth and more pressure.

Bony areas — jawline, forehead, mandible — are slightly more sensitive than fleshy ones. The neck and submentum are usually well-tolerated. Most patients say the second half of the session feels easier than the first, partly because numbing deepens and partly because they have a better sense of what is coming.

If you are someone who tolerates Botox without issue, you will likely tolerate Morpheus8. If neurotoxin injections feel unbearable, talk to us at the consult about additional numbing options.

Immediately after

The first 15-30 minutes after your final pass: your skin looks like a moderate sunburn. The pinpoint marks from the RF pins are visible — a grid pattern across the treated areas. There is no blood, no bandages, no stitches. Your face feels warm and tight.

Your RN will apply a calming serum and a mineral SPF, walk you through aftercare, and answer any questions. You will receive a follow-up text the next morning. If something feels off in the meantime — unusual swelling, pain that is not improving, anything that worries you — we are reachable 24/7 at (949) 229-2574.

Ready to book your first session?

The path to your first Morpheus8 starts with a $50 telehealth consult. Our Medical Director builds your protocol and confirms candidacy, and the consult fee is credited in full toward your first treatment.

The next 1-3 days

Hours 0-24: Sunburn-like flush, mild swelling especially around the under-eyes and jawline, pinpoint grid pattern visible. Mineral SPF only. No makeup. Sleep slightly elevated to reduce swelling.

Day 2: Swelling is the worst it will get and then resolves quickly. The flush fades to a pinker, less intense color. Pinpoint marks may darken into tiny dots — this is normal and they slough off in 1-2 days. Gentle cleanser and bland moisturizer only.

Day 3: Most patients are camouflage-able with mineral makeup. The flush is faint, the swelling is gone, and the skin feels tight in a "did-something" way rather than a painful way. You can resume normal social activity.

For a full hour-by-hour and day-by-day timeline, see our Morpheus8 recovery timeline guide. For first-timers, the rule is: if Thursday is your session, Saturday-Sunday are your recovery days, and Monday you are back at the office without anyone noticing.

Common first-timer questions

"When will I see results?" Some patients see a "glow" by day 7-10 from the immediate collagen response. Real structural change — tightening, jawline definition, scar improvement — emerges between months 1 and 3 and peaks at 6 months as new collagen continues to organize.

"How will I know if it worked?" Take before photos on the day of your first session, then again at month 3 and month 6 in the same lighting. The day-to-day change is too subtle to track in the mirror; the month-over-month comparison is where the result becomes obvious.

"What if I want to stop after one session?" You can. Soothe IV does not require pre-payment of the full package. Many patients book one session, see how their skin responds, then decide whether to continue. The per-session price does not increase if you pay as you go.

What "in-home" changes

Soothe IV's Morpheus8 protocol is the same clinical protocol you would receive at a Newport Beach plastic surgeon's office — same FDA-cleared InMode device, same sterile single-use tips, same depth controls, same RN credentials. What changes is the logistics around it.

In-home matters most for the 90 minutes after your session, not the session itself. You are not driving home with a freshly flushed face. You are not navigating a parking garage in 80-degree sun. You can ice on your own couch, take the dog out 90 minutes later, and let the recovery happen in your own space. For most patients in Orange County, this is the difference between scheduling Morpheus8 and putting it off another six months.

The clinical work is the same. The clinical experience is the same. The friction is different — and lower friction is usually what gets patients to actually complete the 3-5 session plan that the results require.
